The Women Who Built the Sikh Empire

Unite in Virtue organised a fundraising talk, entitled The Women Who Built the Sikh Empire.

The event was a huge success, raising more than £900 for Unite in Virtue from ticket sales, our sponsor LNG Quest Ltd, donations for those who couldn’t attend and raffle tickets.

Dr Priya Atwal, who has a PhD in History at Oxford University, gave the captivating talk on how Women in the Sikh Empire supported Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 19th Century.

There were also entertaining performances, including a monologue by trainee drama therapist Eshmit Kaur and a musical recital by students from Khalsa Academy Wolverhampton.

The winners of our raffle generously donated their prizes (gift cards valuing £50 and £25) back to Unite in Virtue, which went towards purchasing men’s coats and sleeping bags for the homeless.

The talk was also featured on BBC Asian Network and BBC West Midlands radio.
